Writing with Hermes

Learn how to use Hermes autocomplete, rewrite text, set project writing guidelines, brainstorm with AI, and export your manuscript.

Accept or dismiss autocomplete

  1. Start typing in the editor. Suggestions appear after a pause.
  2. Press Tab to accept a suggestion, or keep typing to continue with your own words.
  3. Press Escape to dismiss a suggestion. Use Cmd+K on Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows to request one manually.

Rewrite a passage

  1. Select the passage you want to revise.
  2. Open the command palette with Cmd+E on Mac or Ctrl+E on Windows and describe the change you want.
  3. Generate a revision, review it, and choose whether to keep it.

Set your writing guidelines

  1. Open the project menu and choose Writing Guidelines.
  2. Set tone, point of view, tense, and style notes for the project. General settings supply defaults across projects.
  3. Review AI suggestions and adjust your guidance when the result does not fit your story.

Brainstorm with project chat

  1. Open the chat panel from your writing workspace.
  2. Ask about characters, pacing, plot, or a possible next scene. Include the constraints that matter to your story.
  3. Treat the response as a draft to evaluate and adapt.

Export your manuscript

  1. Open the project menu and select Export Project.
  2. Choose PDF, DOCX, EPUB, HTML, or TXT and select the project sections to include.
  3. Review the export options and download your file. Keep periodic exports as backups.
